Arboretum Update

Croton Arboretum

The Arboretum is officially open, but the entrance road remains blocked by a fallen tree so visitors will need to walk in until the village is able to clear the road. Because of the post-Sandy clean-up work in the area, it may be as long as two weeks before the village can do this.

We lost a handful of trees during Sandy and the subsequent snowstorm, but the damage was surprisingly light. Our theory is that the massive damage the Arboretum suffered last year (and the tree work we did this year) cleared out the weak trees and branches. Whatever the reason, we were lucky.

We still urgently need funds to replace more than $15,000 that would otherwise have gone to improving our boardwalk and trails, much-needed planting projects and educational programs. During this season of giving we appeal to everyone who loves the Arboretum to make a donation and help us recover financially.

If you can contribute, please make checks payable to The Croton Arboretum and Sanctuary, Inc. and mail them to The Croton Arboretum and Sanctuary, Inc., P.O. Box 631, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520.
