Arboretum to Open New Boardwalk Extension

The Croton Arboretum and Sanctuary, Inc. is officially opening the newest extension of the boardwalk that the organization began in 1995, to increase access and enjoyment of the 20+ acres of wetlands and woods at the Jane E. Lytle Arboretum in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. The event will be held on October 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Arboretum (rain or shine). After a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony the public is invited to join Arboretum volunteers to help spread mulch on the trails.

The new boardwalk extension is 224 feet long and covers a portion of the level trail that loops around the Arboretum's rare shrub and hardwood swamp. The extension was constructed with a $10,000 grant award from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The mulch is being donated by Conserve-A-Tree.

Founded in 1993, the Croton Arboretum and Sanctuary, Inc. is a volunteer, non-profit organization that provides environmental stewardship of the Jane E. Lytle Arboretum. Working in partnership with local schools, businesses and other civic organizations, the Arboretum also promotes environmental recreation and education programs in wetland restoration, wildlife habitat enhancement and water quality monitoring.
